Malta is blessed with a beautifully temperate climate with very mild winters and warm to hot summers. Winter in Malta often like summers in northern European countries. January, which is the coldest month, has a typical maximum temperature range between 12 and 18 C° and the highest recorded temperature for this month was 22.2C°. July is the hottest month in Malta with an average temperature of 27°C (80°F) with August having the highest number of hours of sunshine with around 12 hours per day.
The wettest month is November with an average of 108.6mm of rain. The best month to swim in the sea is in August when the average sea temperature is 27°C (81°F) (i.e. if you like your dip to be like a warm bath like sandy beach Mellieha bay) but swimming is still refreshing as you’ll want to escape the often mid 30s plus temperatures.
Rain occurs mainly in winter, with summer being generally dry.
